Dubai-based esports and gaming company Galaxy Racer and independent music label Empire announced the launch of GXR Records this week, though the company appears to have been in the works since March of 2022.

Financial terms of the new deal between Empire and Galaxy Racer to create this new music label were not disclosed.

According to a release, GXR is described as “an independent music label based in Dubai” that will be led by Elia Mssawir, who began in the role as “head of label in March of 2022 at the music label and was elevated to CEO in January, according to this LinkedIn profile. GXR Records will develop talent in West Asia and North Africa (WANA), and plans music festivals and tours for artists in the future throughout the region, according to the announcement.

Galaxy Racer is best known for its work in the international esports scene, with operations in India, North America, MENA, and other regions. In July, Dubai-based Riva Technology and Entertainment (RTE), a subsidiary of MSM Corporation International Limited (MSM), and Galaxy Racer  signed what they called an “implementation agreement,” with the companies noting at the time that the transaction would be complete by the end of August. The merged companies will be rebranded as “Celestial” when the transaction is completed.
