Luxury brand Gucci and tournament organizer ESL FACEIT Group (EFG), announced Thursday the launch of a new short-form documentary series called “GG Legends,” which aims to shine “a spotlight on esports icons,” according to a release.
Available on Gucci’s YouTube channel, the series features esports broadcasting host Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden, Team Vitality’s Mathieu “Zywoo” Herbaut Team Liquid Co-owner and WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx star Aerial Powers, and others. The first episode tells the untold story of Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden, who shares the story of her breast cancer diagnosis and her journey to remission.
The documentary series is part of the ongoing partnership between Gucci and EFG, which also includes the Gucci Gaming Academy—launched in 2022 with the aim of empowering “young esports talent to go professional.”
Gucci initially partnered with UK tournament organizer FACEIT in 2021, prior to its purchase by Savvy Games Group (backed by the Saudi Arabian government’s Public Investment Fund) and subsequent merger with ESL.
Gucci has worked with a number of gaming and esports properties on one-off apparel projects including 100 Thieves, Fnatic, and Roblox.
