Red Bull announced Monday the return of its Age of Empires LAN tournament, Red Bull Wololo. The 2024 edition, Red Bull Wololo: El Reinado, will take place Oct. 3-6, at Castillo de Almodóvar del Río in Cordoba, Spain. Prizing for the event will be announced at a later date, according to a Red Bull rep.
The seventh edition of Red Bull Wololo will feature competition in four Age of Empires games: Age of Empires I, Age of Empires II, Age of Empires IV, and Age of Mythology: Retold. Official qualifiers for the main event begin April 30.
Those wishing to participate can earn their spot through a number of different qualifiers including online tournaments and through Microsoft’s in-game ladder. Some players will receive direct invites such as reigning champions Roberto “TaToH” Jiménez and Alexis “MarineLorD” Eusebio. Red Bull said in its announcement that each game will have a unique qualification process.
The qualifying process:
Age of Empires II: Ranked ladder runs from April 30 – July 28, with the four highest-ranked players on the leaderboard at 16:00 GMT on the last day qualifying for the main event. A last chance qualifier will take place shortly after from Aug. 10 – 18th, with the final spots determined by a single-elimination stage.
Age of Empires IV: Qualifiers run from July 20 – Aug. 4, using a double-elimination format divided into two different brackets, with the top two players qualifying for the main event.
Age of Empires I: A qualifier will be held in Vietnam to determine finalists.
Age of Mythology: Retold: Two players will join two online tournament winners for a final showdown.
Red Bull said that it is collaborating with Age of Empires developer World’s Edge, with AGON by AOC returning as the official monitor partner for the event, and Backforce as the official gaming chair provider.
