U.S.-based tournament organizer the Fiber Gaming Network (FGN) announced that it is partnering with the Iowa Communications Alliance (ICA) to host an online, state-wide Rocket League competition aimed at students and members of the community.
Financial terms of this partnership were not disclosed.
Taking place April 26-28, the online competition will be open to students in Iowa and players in communities with a participating “Community Host.” Those Community Hosts in Iowa include Alpine Communications, Dumont Telephone, Griswold Communications, GRM Networks, Heart of Iowa Communications Coop, Marne Elk Horne Telephone, Mi-Fiber, Minburn Telephone Company, Premier Communications, Preston Telephone, South Slope Communications, and Winnebago Cooperative Telecom Association.
The competition will feature a 3v3 format with a single-elimination structure and a total prize pool of $7.5K USD. Payouts for winners are as follows:
- 1st Place: $4.2K
- 2nd Place: $2.1K
- 3rd Place: $900
- 4th Place: $300
It is important to note that to be eligible to compete, players must not be current RLCS players, and at least one team member must “live at an address serviceable by a Community Host or attend a school sponsored by a Community Host or the IAHSEA.” Players must also be 13 years of age or older. The FGN Iowa Clash is part of Fiber Gaming Network’s FGN Clash Series, a platform aimed at “fiber providers” in the continental U.S. to bring esports/gaming competitions to local schools and communities. FGN is a subsidiary of North American broadband marketing company DxTEL.
The Iowa Communications Alliance (ICA) describes itself as an “association representing Iowa’s 250+ community-based broadband providers, as well as a dozen other community-based fiber providers around the state.”
