Riot Games announced Wednesday the list of charities that will take a percentage of the $4.5M USD generated from in-game items and content sales as part of the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. Wednesday’s announcement follows the news that the charitable program tied to Riot’s games such as Teamfight Tactics, League of Legends, Valorant, and others has generated $50M since its inception in 2019.
When players raise money for charity through in-game events and skins that money goes directly into the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. Once that money is raised, player’s voices are crucial in determining where that money goes. Thanks to the contributions of players around the world, the Social Impact Fund recently crossed $50M raised for a wide variety of important causes.
For 2023, $4.5M was allocated to be donated to charities in partnership with GlobalGiving. The players who helped generate this money also chose where it would go: Across 28 regions, three different nonprofits were available for voting in each region covering important issues and causes such as climate change, education, gender equality, and more.
The nonprofit that received the most votes got 50% of that region’s pool, while the other two organizations each received 25%. All the organizations on this list are guaranteed to receive at least $10K. Around 589,000 votes were cast by players all around the world during the process, according to Riot.
All three of the options per region are listed below, with the organization listed first being the one that received the most votes from players.
