Philadelphia-based tournament operator and Localhost owner Nerd Street Gamers and Glassboro, New Jersey-based Rowan University officially launched Localhost Rowan University, an gaming and esports venue located on the college campus.
Nerd Street Chief Product Officer Joel Velarde and Rowan President Ali Houshmand were on site for an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday (as captured in the photo above). Localhost Rowan University also represents Nerd Street’s very first collegiate-focused venue.
Localhost Rowan University is a 7,100 square foot facility capable of hosting 300 people and features 50 PCs in the main floor area. The facility also includes an additional 10 PCs in a 5 vs. 5 stage setup, as well as a private room for Rowan’s esports teams, events, and bootcamps that contains 10 more PCs. A console lounge is also part of the facility, offering access to a Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch consoles. Future plans for expansion will include a broadcast room and a mixed-use studio, according to a release.
When the Localhost isn’t in operation, Rowan’s Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts will use the venue for broadcast production and courses.
Just how much money was spent on construction and other associated costs was not disclosed.
