International esports organization Team Liquid announced Tuesday that it has acquired Southeast Asia-based esports organization STUN.GG and its esports properties AURA Esports in Indonesia and ECHO Esports in the Philippines. Both AURA and ECHO will be renamed under the Team Liquid brand and will help grow Team Liquid’s operations in the region, according to a release.
Financial terms of this acquisition were not disclosed.
The company said in a release that this acquisition is part of its global esports expansion strategy, adding this important region to its existing portfolio, which currently includes North America, Latin America, and Europe.
“Joining Team Liquid is a dream come true,” said Daniel Santoso, Chief Brand Officer of AURA. “Liquid’s robust brand presence, competitive focus, and global strategy will empower us to achieve our goals on a grander scale. We believe in Team Liquid’s quest to build a global and multi-generational esports organization, and that was a key factor in this partnership.”
With the acquisition of STUN.GG, Team Liquid picks up Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams from AURA Esports (which competes in MPL Indonesia) and ECHO Esports (competes in MPL Philippines). AURA Esports and ECHO Esports will also be rebranded to Team Liquid ID and Team Liquid PH, respectively, during the next seasons of MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines. In addition to acquiring two SEA ML:BB rosters, Team Liquid also gains access to both teams’ collective social media presence, which numbers in the 10M follower range.
“It was the leaders and staff of AURA/ECHO that convinced us that we were making the right decision,” added Steve Arhancet, Co-CEO of Team Liquid. “Their integration is vital to our success in the region, and we will provide them with the guidance and autonomy they need to authentically represent Team Liquid in Indonesia and the Philippines. I am excited to welcome our new Indonesian and Filipino fans.”
Team Liquid competes in a number of high-profile esports including League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, PUBG: Mobile, and now ML:BB.
