Riot Games has won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage for the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Final, which featured League of Legends Championship Korea (LCK) team T1 facing off against League of Legends Pro League (LPL, China) team Weibo Gaming. That final took place on Nov. 19, 2023, at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea, with T1 ultimately defeating Weibo Gaming 3–0, and earning its fourth World Championship.

The award was accepted by Riot Games VP of Content Service Dave Stewart in a ceremony on Monday.

Riot’s annual World Championship for League of Legends esports has been consistently nominated by the National Academy of the Television Arts & Sciences since the category was added in 2020, and this year marks Riot’s fifth win at the awards.

Riot managed to beat out itself, as the Valorant Champions 2023 Grand Final (Paper Rex vs. Evil Geniuses) was also nominated, alongside the 2023 Call of Duty League Championship Weekend (New York Subliners vs. Toronto Ultra – Esports Engine, which has been consumed by ESL FACEIT Group), ESL FACEIT Group’s Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2023 Grand Finals (ENCE vs. G2 Esports), and BLAST’s BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.

On a related note, Esports Charts reports that Riot’s League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational 2024 enjoyed peak viewers of 2.83M (May 18), an average minute audience (AMA) of 1M, and 78M hours watched, on a little over 77 hours of airtime. The most popular moment occurred on May 18 with T1 facing off against BLG in the lower bracket finals (2.8M). These viewership numbers are based on data from multiple streaming platforms including AfreecaTV, CHZZK, NimoTV, Trovo, TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube.
