The French Tennis Federation revealed details on Tuesday about the 2024 Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault, with the final stage set to take place on May 25. In case you are not familiar with this competition, Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault uses Wildlife Studios’ popular mobile tennis game Tennis Clash (which has had 150M downloads to-date since its release in October 2019). The Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault has been utilizing the game for its official competitions for the last two years. 2024 marks the seventh year of professional competition, and is the only international tennis game focused esports series that we are aware of.
This year Renault becomes the new presenting partner, while Mastercard (which has been a sponsor of Roland-Garros for the last 11 years) also joins for the first time as an official partner of 2024 Roland-Garros eSeries.
On May 25, eight competitors will face off during the Final Stage at Roland-Garros to claim the champion’s title, with finalists sharing the € 5K prize pool (or roughly, $5.43K USD). Professional player William “Fozzy” Foster will defend his crown against the seven other finalists at Roland-Garros, while former ATP #6 and Davis Cup winner Gilles Simon will also be competing; and a wildcard spot was granted to Handigamers (as a way to garner more participation from women this year), a French association providing disabled people with assistance to enable them to continue playing video games. In addition, players qualifying for the Final Stage will receive support from France-based esports club GameWard.
The French Tennis Federation claims that over 400K players participated in the 2023 open qualifiers from 217 territories.
The first open qualifier for the 2024 Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault runs from March 7 – 12. For more details about the 2024 competition, check out www.rolandgarros.com.
