At the end of the Capcom Cup IX competition (the final leg of the Capcom Pro Tour 2022-2023 season) on Feb. 19, Japanese game developer and publisher Capcom announced that the 2023 season of the Capcom Pro Tour will feature a total prize pool of $2M USD, with $1M of that amount going directly to the overall winner. This is a major increase in the overall amount allocated to the circuit from 2022 of $300K.
Saul Leonardo Mena Segundo (better known to his fans as “MenaRD”) from the Dominican Republic was the big winner in Sunday’s finals.
In addition, Capcom revealed that the next iteration of its popular fighting game, Street Fighter 6, will be the title of choice for the competitive scene going forward. Street Fighter 6 will be released on PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in early June.
The 2023 season will kick off sometime this summer following the release of the game, with a mix of both online and in-person qualifying events, and regional “World Warrior” events making a return as well, according to FGC-focused publication EventHubs. It is likely that the grand final event of the season, Capcom Cup X, will take place in early 2024, but Capcom has not revealed details on that as of this writing.
