City of El Paso Honors Gold Star Gamers With its Own Special Day

On Tuesday city leaders in El Paso, Texas, honored the charitable efforts of Gold Star Gamers and its partners by proclaiming that Dec. 5 will henceforth be known as “Gold Star and Military Survivors Children’s Champions Day.”

The proclamation is in response to the charitable organization’s local and national efforts to support children of U.S. Armed Forces military personnel who lost their lives while in service by using gaming and other support programs.

Gold Star Gamers, UKnightedXP, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, Sun Bowl Association, the city of El Paso, and its community leaders partnered in September to create an event that lifts up, celebrates, and supports surviving military children.

The goal of the collaboration is to create a special event called the “Sun Bowl Showdown,” which will be held Dec. 27 – 29, and marks the very first military Gold Star charitable gaming event in the United States in collaboration with a college football bowl game.

Below is the official proclamation:

The City of El Paso recognizes the importance of honoring and supporting the Military dependent children who have lost a parent during the service to their country. Gold Star and Military Survivor Children are the immediate relatives of U.S Armed Forces Service members who died in battle or in support of certain military activities, and honoring their families is a sign of their importance to the City of El Paso.

We recognize that the strength of our military is our service members, and the strength of our service members is our families and that no one has given more for the nation than the families of the fallen. The City of El Paso seeks to foster a sense of community, resilience, and empowerment among Gold Star Children through innovative and engaging activities.

Gold Star Gamers, a non-profit organization, has been working tirelessly to provide opportunities for military children survivors to engage in sports. The Gold Star Gamers Organization and The City of El Paso’s Division of Veteran and Military Affairs is organizing a children’s esports competition on December 28, 2023, at The Battleground on Fort Bliss.

Be It Proclaimed: by the Mayor and Council of the City of El Paso that December 5, 2023 shall be known as: “Gold Star and Military Survivor Children’s Champions Day.”
