HBCU Esports League Season Four Launches

 Cxmmunity Media announced this week that the fourth season of its annual HBCU Esports League officially kicks off on Sunday (Sept. 17). The new season of the HBCU Esports League will include students from 15 Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the United States, competing for a piece of a total prize pool of $170K USD (to be used as scholarships to further the education).

This year competitors from Howard University, North Carolina A&T, Wilberforce University, Morehouse College, Florida Memorial University, Alabama A&M, Benedict College, Claflin University, Delaware State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Southern University, and Texas Southern University will participate.

In addition, former NFL wide receiver Chad “OchoCinco” Johnson has signed on as an official ambassador of the  HBCU Esports League: 

“I’m excited to be working with the HBCU Esports League and help them grow to new heights in their fourth season,” said Johnson in a release. “Gaming has always been a passion of mine and I wanted to support Cxmmunity Media’s mission to diversify the gaming industry.”

Verizon, Discover, MTN Dew, and Hot Pockets have also returned as sponsors and partners.

Season four of the HBCU Esports League can be streamed on Twitch, with the Fall term concluding with the return of the Discover Bowl on Dec. 17.
