Wouter Sleijffers Leaves EXCEL Esports

Wouter Sleijffers announced on Monday that he has left London-based esports organization EXCEL Esports. Sleijffers spent nearly four years as the chief executive officer at the company. He stepped down from that role in January, according to his LinkedIn profile, and has served as an advisor to the board on strategy & growth.

Prior to joining EXCEL, Sleijffers served as the CEO of Fnatic for more than four years. 

In a LinkedIn post announcing his exit from the company, Sleijffers reflected on the last eight years in the London esports scene:

Dear friends. I have, after nearly 4 momentous years, left EXCEL ESPORTS. Across my years at Fnatic and Excel Esports, it’s been 8 years ‘grinding to and at the top’. 

When I started at Excel Esports as CEO at the end of 2019, I labeled it ‘same job, different challenge’. And it was exactly that.

Excel Esports is supported by amazing talent, and the very best sponsors & partners. It’s impossible to describe the incredible change and growth we’ve achieved over the past years. All credits for what has been achieved thus far, simply go to every single Excel Esports member, on- and off stage, past and present.

Excel Esports is in top form, and sometimes we deserved so much more. I’ll be looking forward to everything that’s still to come, and will remain a supporter from the sidelines. I wish the team the best of luck taking Excel Esports to greater heights & glory.

He added in a comment to the post that he will be making an announcement on his next adventure soon.
