The European Olympic Committee (EOC) announced Monday that it will host its inaugural Esports Championship June 30 – July 2, in conjunction with the European Games Kraków-Małopolska 2023 in Katowice, Poland. Two games will be featured during the event: Epic Games and Psyonix’s Rocket League and Konami Digital Entertainment’s eFootball 2023.

The EOC said that these games were selected because of “huge popularity and alignment with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC’s) esports policy as non-violent and sport centered games.”

Both competitions will feature “Open” and “Women Categories.” Further details on the format were not disclosed, but the EOC said that competitions will be hosted at the International Congress Center.

The Global Esports Federation played a key role in the selection of these titles, just as it did for Esports Olympic Week, which The Esports Advocate has chronicled in several stories in 2023.

Finally, the EOC said in a release that it will also host “GEFestival,” which it describes as – a celebration of esports’ inclusive culture, games, music, and entertainment” and “GEFcon,”  a convention featuring “thought leaders and idea creators in business, esports, sport, and technology on an international stage for sharing and learning.”
