ESL FACEIT Group-owned gaming and esports events company DreamHack revealed some data on Tuesday related to DreamHack San Diego, a three-day gaming lifestyle festival that was held at the San Diego Convention Center April 7-9.
According to organizers, more than 41,000 total attendees passed through the three-day festival, setting a record as the largest-ever U.S. DreamHack festival to-date.
In addition to fan-facing offerings such as exhibitor booths, contests, musical performances, retro arcades, and more, DreamHack San Diego featured a number of esports tournaments and LAN competitions that delivered nearly $1M USD in prize money.
Some of those competitions included Brawl Stars and Clash of Clans—part of the Snapdragon Pro Series Powered by Samsung Galaxy Mobile Challenge Finals—which doled out $100K in total prizes; DreamHack Open Featuring Fortnite, which gave out $250K, DreamHack Fighters (which featured Super Smash Bros. Melee, Street Fighter V, TEKKEN 7, and more) awarded $100K; the Magic: The Gathering U.S. Regional Championship with a prize pool of $130K; the DreamHack Cosplay Championship awarded, which awarded a modest $3K to local and national cosplayers; and the Rocket League Championship Series Winter Major,which gave out a total of $310K.
In addition, organizers say that it handed out more than $1M in tickets to local students, and donated $25K to the Autism Society San Diego through its Dream Big initiative.
