Riot Games announced an expansion of the officially sanctioned League of Legends competitive scene in the Philippines with the introduction of Liga Republika 2024. An expansion from last year’s Empyrean Cup, the Liga Republika 2024 competitive circuit will offer competition to 384 regional teams (an increase from the 256 teams that participated in the Empyrean Cup in 2023) from regions such as Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Liga Republika 2024 will feature both online and offline stages of completion, beginning in May with a Kickoff Invitational featuring the top eight teams from the 2023 Empyrean Cup, with the top four teams qualifying for a group stage in August.
In June, the tournament will also be opened up to the public, allowing more than 300 teams to compete in open qualifiers from July to August, with a chance to secure one of 12 group slots.
From those aforementioned competitions, 16 teams will advance to a group stage in August, with the playoffs to take place in September.
The Grand Final of Liga Republika 2024 will take place at an offline LAN event (location to be announced) and will feature the top eight teams vying for the championship and a prize pool of ₱1M PHP, or roughly $17K USD.
Fans in the Philippines should keep an eye on Riot’s Instagram and Facebook channels for future updates on this competition series.
