In a new game development blog post from Tom Cannon—senior director and executive producer for Project L at Riot Games—it was revealed that Project L’s official name is 2XK0. In addition to the game getting an official name, Cannon also revealed that it will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC in 2025.

“What’s next for us, then? In 2024 we want to hear more from you, the fighting game community, to make sure we’re bringing you the best game possible at launch and beyond,” Cannon wrote, adding later that Riot has “come a long way since the game was first announced, thanks in large part to all of you. We can’t wait to enter this next chapter of development and get you more involved in the making of the game.”

In 2024 Riot plans to start talking about the 2XK0 more on its social media channels, in development blog posts, and to release more gameplay information, art, music and more.

In addition, Riot will host a playable demo at Evo Japan in April.

Finally, Riot tentatively plans to “start at-home playtesting before the end of the year,” with sign-ups available now at the game’s official website

2XK0 is a 2v2 team fighting game likely inspired by such games as the Tekken Tag Tournament series, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, and various Street Fighter crossover titles. Riot has not disclosed how it will approach esports with this particular title; Will it will find inclusion in events within the FGC calendar such as Evo, have a dedicated global circuit of its own, or even a combination of both those possibilities?
