Esports organization Kansas City Pioneers announced Friday a partnership with the Army National Guard to host six tournaments in the Midwestern United States over the remainder of 2023.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The partnership is part of the National Guard’s ongoing mission of connecting with local communities and creating relationships through activities such as gaming, according to a release.

The National Guard will also offer a “platform for aspiring gamers to showcase their talents and explore potential opportunities within the National Guard, including jobs in cybersecurity, information technology, logistics, and more.” In other words, these events will also be used as recruiting opportunities for the National Guard.

The first competitions will take place at the Midwest Fest, June 16 – 18 at the LEVELUP Arena in Kansas City. Tournaments include a Rocket League 3v3 team tournament on June 16; an Apex Legends 3v3 team deathmatch tournament on June 17; and a Call of Duty Modern Warfare II Gunfight 2v2 tournament on June 18. All tournaments have a total prize pool (each) of $1K.
