LPL, LCK Players to Skip Road to Asian Games

Players from China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL) and South Korea’s League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), will not be taking part in the upcoming  Road to Asian Games, according to a report in South Korean publication Daily eSports. While no specific reason was given, it appears that it is due mostly to scheduling conflicts as players in both leagues will be busy with competitions when the Road to Asian Games takes place next month in Macau, June 15 – July 16.

The Road to Asian Games is meant to serve as a qualifying event for the upcoming 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, but it is not required for either team to participate in that event. Teams that do participate and perform well will receive “advantageous” seeding for the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Asian eSports Federation (AESF) announced the Road to Asian Games on May 23. The qualifying competition will feature the same disciplines as the Hangzhou Asian Games including League of Legends, Honor of Kings, Peacekeeper Elite, Dota 2, Dream of The Three Kingdoms, Street Fighter V, and FIFA Online 4.
