Board game makers Glass Cannon Unplugged and Genuine Entertainment announced Wednesday the official launch of a crowdfunding campaign for its latest board game effort, Apex Legends: The Board Game. The board game is already in development, but the developers are looking to raise $244,491 USD via this Kickstarter campaign (it is already over the halfway mark, as of this writing) for early funding. The official tabletop game based on Apex Legends is licensed through a partnership with publisher Electronic Arts and developer Respawn Entertainment.
The game is described as a tactical team vs team miniatures game for 2-4 players divided into two teams, facing off in a battle royale-style challenge played out in a 3D tabletop environment. Developers say that future expansions will add support for up to six players and even solo gameplay. Obviously the game will feature select characters from the game.
The Core Box ($88 USD) features game modes focused around the Kings Canyon map, and four Legends from the game: Bangalore, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, and Wraith. There’s also a Full Team Expansion ($39) that adds fifth and sixth player options and three 2-player teams, along with new board setups, game modes, the canyon terrain type and two new Legends: Lifeline and Pathfinder. The Kickstarter campaign is set to close June 8. According to the page, Apex Legends: The Board Game will begin shipping worldwide sometime in June 2024.
Apex Legends is the latest online-focused action game to get the board game treatment; last month an officially licensed Call of Duty board game was announced by Activision, Arcane Wonders, Genuine Entertainment, and Evolution—that is also set to ship sometime in 2024.
Genuine Entertainment has created a lot of board games based on big IPs over the years including Dune, The Walking Dead, Batman, Altered Carbon, Dragon Prince, Alien, Fraggle Rock, and Blade Runner, among others.
