India-based nCore Games announced Monday that it has invested $1M USD investment in Newgen Gaming, owner and operator of Penta Esports. Newgen will use the funds to “accelerate the growth of the company’s offerings and to expand its team and operations across South Asia and MENA regions,” according to a release.

Newgen was founded in 2021 by industry veterans Anurag Khurana (former Riot Games India, Reliance Jio, and Paytm First Games), Kiran Noojibail (former League of Extraordinary Gamers exec), Akshay Paul (former Jio Games and Flaheads exec), and Krishanu Ghosal (former AnimationXpress India reporter and editor). The company’s Penta Esports brand operates in the tournament organizer space, with a focus on grassroots leagues, tournaments, and related content in India. Specifically, it operates the Penta Amateur League and the Penta Collegiate League, the Penta Invitational, Penta Cup, Penta Challenge, and the Penta Pro Series.

nCore Games, which describes itself as a “mobile games and interactive entertainment company,” also has investments in Studio nCore, IceSpice, and Dot9 Games, with investment of its own from Galaxy Interactive and Animoca Brands. nCore Games believes this investment will give the company access to a “strong network of esports athletes and fans,” as well as original esports-related content. nCore’s most recent mobile releases in the country include FAU:G, ICC Cricket Mobile, and Apna Games.
