Generation Esports Partners With Nintendo

Scholastic and collegiate esports company Generation Esports announced Tuesday that it has signed a partnership with Nintendo of America to launch competitive play in middle schools across the United States through its Middle School Esports League.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the terms of the deal, Generation Esports will be able to offer students access to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 3. These games will will officially join Generation Esports’ other offerings beginning Feb. 27 at the start of the league’s spring season.

The company also said that, in cooperation with Nintendo, it will be offering out Nintendo Switch systems and software to “numerous middle schools” so they can compete in the MSEL Spring Major.

Generation Esports operates the Middle School Esports League and High School Esports League in North America. Starting in November of 2019, the company has raised roughly $29.9M USD in disclosed investments from eight investors across multiple funding rounds. Those investors, according to Crunchbase data,  including ClearVision Equity Partners, Altos Ventures, Kindergarten Ventures, El Cap Holdings, KCRise Fund, Moore Venture Partners, FJ Labs, and Zeal IT Consultants.
