Epic Games announced Tuesday the launch of a new server region for North America called “Fortnite NA-Central” and that in future seasons of competitive Fortnite North America will have one central North American region for a total prize pool.

The company said in a release that it worked closely with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch the new server region, with it being physically located in Dallas, Texas. The goal is to provide low-latency connectivity for Fortnite pro players in Mexico and the Central United States. Epic hopes that it will provide equivalent performance to servers in other regions such as NA-East and NA-West.

Along with the launch of this new region, Epic said that it may host some events within the new server region as part of Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 1, though “tournaments in North America will still generally be hosted on the NA-East and NA-West server regions.”

This will change when Chapter 4 Season 2 launches. Epic notes that competitive events will not be hosted on the NA-East and NA-West server regions in the future, instead moving to NA-Central servers. Players will still be able to view and queue up for competitive events while set to the NA-East or NA-West server region, but will be routed to the NA-Central servers.

Finally, Epic said that prizing future Battle Royale Seasons for NA-East and NA-West will be combined into one pool for North America including “qualifications through multi-round tournaments such as Victory Cash Cups, FNCS Majors, and the FNCS Global Championship.”
