Games Done Quick, the speedrunning series that airs on Twitch, has raised more than $2.6M USD for charity in its very first event of 2023. The event, which ran from Jan. 8 – 15, saw speedrunners attempt to beat a number of games in record time including PowerWash Simulator, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge, and Steven Seagal Is: The Final Option (yes, that’s a real game).
The total amount raised, which was announced on social media, was donated in its entirety to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. To date, the charity speedrunning series has raised more than $43M since its start in 2010.
While $2.6M is an impressive number, chances are it will be surpassed in upcoming 2023 events such as the Frost Fatales (an all-women event) in February, and Summer Games Done Quick 2023, which runs from May 28 – June 4.
Beyond raising a large amount of money for charity, the event did very well in terms of viewership too. During the 160 hour broadcast on Twitch, Games Done Quick saw nearly 10.8M hours watched, 100K peak viewers, and 67K average concurrent viewers, according to Esports Charts.
