BLAST Premier Spring Finals Coming to Washington D.C. in June

UK-based tournament organizer BLAST announced Friday that it will bring its major Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) competition to North America in June with the BLAST Premier Spring Final in Washington D.C. BLAST hasn’t held a CS:GO event in the United States since July of 2019. BLAST has partnered with Events DC and Monumental Sports & Entertainment to help facilitate the event.

Financial terms of these partnerships were not disclosed.

The BLAST Premier Spring Final will take place at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, a multi-purpose events facility capable of seating around 4,000 seats, depending on the configuration (it is also the home of the Washington Mystics and Capital City Go-Go).

The Spring Final will take place June 7 – 11, with eight teams competing for the lion’s share of a $450K USD prize pool and a spot in the World Finals. Before the Spring Finals, teams will slug it out during this week’s BLAST Premier Spring Groups, taking place at BLAST studios in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the top six will advance to the Spring Finals. Two additional teams will be selected from each regional Spring Showdown (April 12-16).

Events DC is the official convention, sports, and entertainment authority in D.C., and helps coordinate and facilitate major events in the city.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment is led by Ted Leonsis and his family, whose various companies own a number of esports and sports teams, arenas, and entertainment properties in D.C. Monumental owns a controlling stake in Team Liquid (through aXiomatic with co-founder Peter Guber) Cavs Gaming, Wizards District Gaming, the NHL team Washington Capitals, NBA team Washington Wizard and G League team Capital City Go-Go, WNBA team Washington Mystics, EagleBank Arena, Capital One Arena, MedStar Capitals Iceplex, and a number of sports-related entertainment properties including Monumental Sports Network, NBC Sports Washington, and the Sports Capital Symposium (a conference in partnership with SportsTechie).
