Amy Fair Roberts Joins XSET as Director of Public Relations

Gaming and esports lifestyle company XSET has appointed Amy Fair Roberts to the role of director of public relations. Prior to joining XSET, Roberts spent 2022 at creative communications consultancy firm Hunt & Gather, working on the accounts of corporate clients including BETA Technologies, Carta Inc., Density, Frontier Communications, ICE, and Warner Music Fan Experiences, among others.

Prior to that, she did a seven month stint at digital sports entertainment and gaming company DraftKings as a communications intern, more than a year at Cambridge, Mass.-based independent equity research firm Off Wall Street Consulting Group as an account coordinator, a four month stint at the PRLab at Boston University as an account executive, and eight months as a paralegal at Boston-based Berman Tobacco.

Roberts’ educational accolades include a master of science, public relations from Boston University College of Communication; and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Tufts University.

Roberts’ career trajectory really illustrates a recent thread on Twitter from Cloud9 Senior Marketing Manager Yangsin Lau Vazquez (previously worked at NYXL), who said that those looking to break into the esports industry should wait, instead getting “1-2 years of experience in your desired field/position somewhere else” before applying to an organization like Cloud9. Further, Vazquez says that people should “come with transferable skills (project management, design programs, campaigns, art, etc.).” If you are trying to break into the industry, I highly recommend that you read the thread and listen to Vazquez’s sage advice.
