United Arab Emirates-based Emirates Esports Federation (EEF) and India-based ITW Global announced Monday that they have teamed up to create the Indian leg of a new international franchised league called E-Gaming League (EGL).
Financial terms of this partnership were not disclosed, but under the terms of the deal, ITW Global will work with the EFF/EGL to launch EGL India in “October 2024.”
The new league will use a “franchise and draft format,” with participation from players and teams in the Middle East, UAE, India, China, South-East Asia, Europe, and the United States.
While specifics on what games will be played in this league, EEF said in a release that it will be a multi-title competition in such games as Dota 2, PUBG, and other to-be-announced titles.
The EGL also said in its announcement that it will onboard six franchises as team owners to travel to the UAE to compete on an international stage in April 2024. Players will undergo a “rigorous selection process, with multiple rounds of qualifiers scheduled for February and March 2024.” according to a release.
In case you didn’t know, the president of the EEF is UAE Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Shakbout Al Nahyan and the federation is under the auspices of the nation’s National Sports Council.

The EGL will revolutionize the Esports industry and go a long way in achieving our goal of creating a space where publishers, players, organizers & brands can come together and co-exist harmoniously to further bolster the future of Esports in the region.”
