International esports organization Team Liquid and global children’s charity UNICEF unveiled a new collaboration on Wednesday: a UNICEF-branded esports team kit to appear in the popular international football game EA SPORTS FC 26. Officially launching on Dec. 3, this release represents the charity’s first-ever in-game item in collaboration with an esports organization.
EA SPORTS FC Ultimate Team players can claim the kit for free simply by completing a simple in-game objective.
The goal of this collaboration is to raise awareness, bring UNICEF’s mission directly to gamers worldwide, and for gamers in turn to show their support for the charity.
“Many great football clubs have dedicated their kits in support of UNICEF, and it’s an honor to join their ranks in a way that’s authentic to esports and gaming,” said Team Liquid founder and co-CEO Victor Goossens. “By making this digital item easily accessible to millions of players worldwide, we hope that EA FC fans will join us in raising awareness for UNICEF’s causes whenever they play. Our EA FC roster will also be wearing the digital kit on the virtual pitch, and we’re anticipating another trophy-laden season.”
Team Liquid said in its announcement that this in-game activation builds on the ongoing initiatives between the two organizations, including charity fundraising streams and community events.
UNICEF (the United Nations agency for children) works to protect the rights of children worldwide, including the right to good nutrition, water, safety, and security in war-torn regions, and an education, among other things.
