International esports organization Team Liquid announced a partnership with UNICEF on Friday to champion the charity’s work in advocating for children’s rights and well-being, and support it through initiatives that revolve around gaming.
Team Liquid said in Friday’s announcement that this collaboration aims to raise funds to support children around the world through a variety of activities and activations, including special streams, in-game activations, and events focused on Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education (you can read more about that on UNICEF’s website). These activities will be spearheaded by Team Liquid’s professional esports teams and content creators. This new collaboration was formally unveiled at the Intel x Team Liquid World Tour event in London.
“As a teenager, gaming taught me about new cultures, helped me develop work ethic, and gave me a goal to strive towards,” said Team Liquid founder and Co-CEO Victor Goossens. “It was a life-changing opportunity for me, and everyone at Team Liquid likewise believes in the transformative power of gaming. Bringing these opportunities to young people is part of our mission, and we are honoured to partner with UNICEF and work with them to support children worldwide in reaching their full potential.”
So what is Goal 4? From the UNICEF page:
“Goal 4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. This goal supports the reduction of disparities and inequities in education, both in terms of access and quality. It recognizes the need to provide quality education for all, and most especially vulnerable populations, including poor children, children living in rural areas, persons with disabilities, indigenous people, and refugee children.”
On Nov. 20 (World Children’s Day), Team Liquid content creators and talent will begin a two-week charity streaming event to raise funds for UNICEF, followed by a “reveal [of] other components of the campaign, including the in-game integrations in support of UNICEF,” according to the announcement.
Team Liquid features more than 96 athletes competing across multiple esports titles, including League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Valorant, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, PUBG: Mobile, and many more. In addition, Liquid Enterprises operates a white-label apparel business, popular esports wiki Liquipedia, and full-service white-label agency LiquidMedia.
