Call of Duty League franchise Minnesota ROKKR has been renamed to G2 Minnesota this week, proving that rumors circulated in August and September that the Berlin-based esports organization would be rebranding the team to a new name. G2 teased in a video on Monday that it would change the name of the organization to G2 Berlin, but later published a video vignette revealing the true and new name for the team. In terms of branding, G2 will continue to use some of the iconography of Minnesota ROKKR, such as the familiar purple Viking helmet.
The CDL franchise will officially begin competing under the G2 Minnesota moniker during the 2026 season. This rebrand follows another CDL team, Vegas Falcons, officially changing its name to the Riyadh Falcons in September and signing star Call of Duty player McArthur “Cellium” Jovel.

G2 Esports took over the assets/operations of Minnesota-based esports organization Version1 and its Call of Duty League franchise, Minnesota ROKKR, in December 2023. At the time, Version1 announced that its ownership group had entered into a strategic partnership with G2 Esports whereby they become shareholders in the company and G2 receives the operating rights to the Call of Duty League franchise. That ownership group included WISE Ventures, the investment arm of the Wilf family, owners of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and MLS and NWSL teams Orlando City SC and Pride; and entrepreneur and investor Gary Vaynerchuk.
G2 announced in March that it has completed a Series B investment round led by the Wilf family’s investment arm WISE Ventures, with participation from the Tornante Company, Gary Vaynerchuk, and G2’s leadership team.
Currently, the Berlin-based organization operates competitive teams in Call of Duty League, League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), Counter-Strike 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant Champions Tour EMEA (VCT EMEA), Sim Racing, and academy and women’s teams in Valorant, Counter-Strike 2, and League of Legends. It also supports a handful of popular content creators such as HAMY, KESHA, and ChelseaBytes. In addition, G2 operates a sports team in the Kings League Germany football league.
These competitive teams are supported by a number of sponsors and partners, including Red Bull, Mastercard, Philips’s monitor brand, chair maker Herman Miller, Ralph Lauren, ESL FACEIT Group, Skinrave, Logitech G, and AGON by AOC.
In addition to its work in esports, G2 also operates a gaming-focused media house agency called 62 (six-two), which launched in January, and aims to connect major mainstream brands “in an authentic way” with the global gaming community.
