Berlin-based esports organization G2 Esports announced the launch of a new original WEBTOON series called Red Aura. The new series is part of a series of events and activations to celebrate the organization’s 10-year anniversary.
The new series aims to reimagine its “10-year legacy in a cinematic, fantasy-action world,” according to today’s announcement. Developed in partnership with art director Runbel (best known for Golem Factory), the series reimagines the history of G2 with “fast-paced action, humour, and heartfelt shonen-style storytelling, while staying rooted in the spirit that has driven G2 over the past ten years.”
“For over 10 years, G2 has chased excellence and defied expectations. Red Aura is a reflection of those values,” said Sabrina Ratih, COO of G2 Esports. “G2 is at the heart of digital-first entertainment, and with Red Aura, we’ve created a story that anyone can enjoy, whether they’re an esports fan or not. We see this as the next step in G2’s evolution into an entertainment powerhouse, with a beautifully crafted story inspired by the challenges overcome on our journey. We’re doing something completely new here, taking a big leap into the unknown, but are really excited for readers to experience and enjoy this new world with us.”
Red Aura will be released globally in both Japanese and English (with more languages to be announced at a later date), with the first five episodes readable now in Japanese on WEBTOON’s LINE MANGA. The series will be released on WEBTOON’s English-language platform at a later date. Episodes will be released on a weekly basis, with more than 40 episodes in total planned for the first season.
