Danish esports organization Ecstatic announced that it has signed a sponsorship deal with gambling blocking app, Gamban.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In addition to the usual activities that go along with an esports sponsorships–such as promoting the brand on jerseys, in video content, and on social media–Ecstatic will launch a Discord community that offers “anonymous peer groups, expert talks, useful tools and support to anyone wanting to stop gambling,” which it hopes will make seeking help “easy & stigma-free, especially for younger gamers who feel out of place.”
“For ten years, Gamban has helped people block access to gambling on their devices and begin their recovery,” said Matt Zarb-Cousin, co-founder of Gamban. “Partnering with a team that rejects gambling sponsorship entirely is a powerful first step. We hope this inspires others to invest in esports without exploiting addiction.”
In a lengthy thread on X, the organization, which focuses on competitions in Counter-Strike 2, detailed the importance of this new sponsorship in the face of many other organizations taking on legitimate and gray market gambling partnerships, noting the dominance of gambling logos in the Counter-Strike 2 competitive scene, many of which have online licenses and are not legal to use in the jurisdictions where they are being advertising in.
We are excited and proud to announce our new partner and main sponsor!
WELCOME @gambanapp ⚡️
This is the first sponsorship in esports/sports focused on harm prevention in gambling- we may be small, but together we can create meaningful impact
