Berlin International Gaming (BIG) and medical cannabis company GreenMedical announced a new partnership on Thursday, marking the first deal in the sector related to cannabis and a Counter-Strike 2 team, and the first esports/cannabis deal in Europe.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but BIG revealed that German marketing agency Freaks 4U Gaming (a subsidiary of NODWIN Gaming) facilitated this new partnership.
The overall goal of the deal is to deliver the message that medical cannabis is not about a “lifestyle,” but a “serious therapy option with high quality standards.”
GreenMedical provides its product through a portal that gives patients access to doctors who can diagnose problems and prescribe the appropriate treatment, according to the release:
“GreenMedical enables uncomplicated and fast care via doctors licensed in Germany, digital transmission of prescriptions, and access to high-quality medical cannabis. In doing so, the company bridges the gap to an effective therapy option that is used too rarely due to an overburdened healthcare system, especially in rural regions.”
Under the terms of this deal, GreenMedical branding will appear on BIG Counter-Strike 2 team jerseys, on social media, and in created content. The companies will also work together to create activations, giveaways, and other engagements as well.
“With BIG, we have gained a partner that stands for performance, community, and modern health culture—sharing our values,” said Christoph Neumeier, founder and managing director of GreenMedical, in the announcement. “We are closing a knowledge gap: medical cannabis is not a lifestyle product, but an effective medicine that has been underutilized. Our approach offers the lowest-threshold and safest access—fully digitally supported and medically supervised. This creates a legal and high-quality alternative to risky self-treatment with black-market cannabis. Together, we can dispel outdated ways of thinking, counter stigmatization, and make it easier for patients to access modern, digital healthcare. This aligns perfectly with our patient-centered and hybrid care approach.”
The 2024 Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG) partially legalized cannabis use in the country, and GreenMedical claims that revenue from the sector in Germany was around €450 million (roughly $524 million USD) in 2024.
GreenMedical joins other BIG sponsors and partners including gaming hardware brand Acer Predator, esports merchandise company UNLTD, German game skin marketplace company SkinBaron, gaming chair company Backforce, razor brand Philips OneBlade, peripherals brand Logitech G, Yum! Brands, Inc. restaurant chain Pizza Hut, and German IT services company BWI. BIG currently competes in Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Trackmania, and Fortnite.
