League of Legends developer Riot Games announced this week that it has partnered with Virtual Private Network (VPN) services company ExpressVPN to sponsor the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC).

Financial terms of this new partnership were not disclosed.

Under the terms of this new deal, ExpressVPN has been named a “Summer Split Partner,” and will sponsor the championship series taking place from August – September, culminating in this year’s League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) at the Caja Mágica in Madrid (Sept. 26 to 28). In addition, players will have access to a free 14-day trial of ExpressVPN and unlock Hextech Chests when they subscribe to the service.

“For today’s gamers, privacy and performance go hand-in-hand. Whether it’s protecting against DDoS attacks, reducing ping, or avoiding ISP throttling, we’re here to help players compete at their best,” said Zac Eller, GM, global partnerships & business development at ExpressVPN. “Riot Games has built a world-class gaming and esports ecosystem, and we’re proud to work with them to ensure the League of Legends community have our best-in-class apps and services to deliver a killer gaming experience every time.”
