North American esports organization Dignitas announced this week that it has inked an official partnership with Theta Labs to create and deploy an AI mascot.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Under the terms of this new deal, Dignitas’ mascot Digi will be transformed into an AI agent designed to serve the Dignitas community as an “always-on fan resource” on the official Dignitas website and as a “live tournament source” for DIGFort, the organization’s 70,000+ strong Fortnite Tournament server.
During DIGFort tournaments, players will be able to use the new AI agent for instant support, with the ability to answer questions on “rules, point systems, schedules, and procedures.”
“Everything we do is for our community—the fans who cheer for us and the players who compete under our banner,” said Jake Clements, Vice President of Partnerships for Dignitas. “With Digi, we’re not just adopting new technology; we’re creating a more meaningful and direct connection with our community. Whether it’s a fan wanting to know more about our legacy or a DIGFort player needing a quick rule clarification, Digi will be there to level-up their experience.”
Digi is powered by Theta EdgeCloud, which the organization claims features over 30,000 distributed edge nodes and resources from cloud partners such as Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services. These combined resources offer over 80 PetaFLOPS of “always available distributed GPU compute power,” according to Theta Labs.
Theta Labs has deals in place with several esports organizations, including Gen.G Esports, Cloud9, FlyQuest, NRG, and Evil Geniuses; content creators such as YoBoyRoy; NHL teams such as the Las Vegas Knights and New Jersey Devils; and four of the top universities in South Korea. The company is backed by Samsung, Sony, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, and Creative Artists Agency, among others.
Owned by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), Dignitas currently competes in League of Legends, Fortnite, and Rocket League.
