Global esports organization Gen.G announced Tuesday that it has inked an official partnership with Theta Labs to create and deploy an AI mascot.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As part of the deal, Theta Labs’ technology is being used to power Genrang.bot, Gen.G’s official bilingual conversational AI Mascot aimed at entertaining and informing its fans with trivia, match information, and other team-focused data across the esports it currently competes in. The new AI bot is available now on the official Gen.G website and its Discord server.
“We have always strived to provide our fan and mod community useful tools to engage our fans globally with our competitive teams and innovative brand partners,” said Gen.G CO Arnold Hur. “Our collaboration with Theta Labs will empower our community with the tools to go deeper within Gen.G and access information that is relevant to them anytime, anywhere.”
Like other esports-focused AI bots, Gen.G’s offering is powered by Theta EdgeCloud, which the organization claims features over 30,000 distributed edge nodes and resources from cloud partners such as Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services. These combined resources offer over 80 PetaFLOPS of “always available distributed GPU compute power,” according to Theta Labs.
Theta Labs has deals in place with several esports organizations, including Cloud9, FlyQuest, NRG, and Evil Geniuses; content creators such as YoBoyRoy; NHL teams such as the Las Vegas Knights and New Jersey Devils; and four of the top universities in South Korea. The company is backed by Samsung, Sony, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, and Creative Artists Agency, among others.
