On June 17, the Jiangxi Shangrao Intermediate People’s Court issued an enforcement ruling against former League of Legends pro Liu “MLXG” Shiyu, ordering him to pay ¥25 million RMB ($3.48 million USD) in compensation to Royal Never Give-Up (RNG) following a contractual dispute.
The judgment comes just one day before RNG’s operating company was itself ordered to pay ¥162 million ($22.5 million) in a separate case, as reported by TEA’s Chen Hongyu, highlighting a turbulent period for the once-dominant Chinese esports brand.
According to public records and statements made by Shiyu, he originally filed a lawsuit against RNG for ¥3 million ($418K) in unpaid compensation related to a livestreaming agreement. In turn, RNG countersued, alleging that Shiyu had violated the terms of his streaming contract by failing to meet the monthly minimum live broadcast hours required on Huya, a major Chinese streaming platform.
Breakdown of the ¥25 Million Judgment
The court’s ruling requires Shiyu to compensate RNG for:
- Approximately ¥6 million ($835K) in streaming fees that Huya withheld due to Shiyu’s contractual violations.
- Liquidated damages as outlined in the contract between RNG and Shiyu.
- Interests and legal costs associated with the case..
Shiyu has publicly stated that he does not accept the court’s decision and intends to appeal the ruling to China’s Supreme People’s Court.
