Paris-based esports organization Team Vitality announced Thursday that it has acquired Indonesia-based Bigetron Esports.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
As part of the acquisition, Bigetron Esports will be rebranded as “Bigetron by Vitality,” and Bigetron Esports CEO Edwin Chia, Team Vitality Co-Founder and CEO Nicolas Maurer, and Team Vitality Corporate Director of Global Operations Danny Engels will work together to lead the organization’s mobile gaming efforts.
In its announcement, Team Vitality said that this acquisition is part of its long-term goal to accelerate its growth in Southeast Asia. No doubt this acquisition also fills a number of holes for its lineup of teams at the Esports World Cup this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (as having as many teams as you can compete accrues “club points,” which goes towards the total tally).
Founded in 2017, Bigetron Esports is a prominent mobile esports organization in Southeast Asia, with teams in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (men’s and women’s teams), PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, and Honor of Kings. Bigetron Esports is also home to a number of “Southeast Asian brand ambassadors” with a combined social media following of more than 27 million.
Finally, Team Vitality noted in its announcement that following this acquisition, the company has more than 170 employees in three different offices in Paris, Berlin, and Jakarta; 19 competitive teams representing 15 games, and a total following of 10 million.
