Riot Games announced Tuesday that it has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange company Coinbase for Valorant and League of Legends esports.
Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
Under the terms of the deal, Coinbase has been named the exclusive cryptocurrency exchange and a blockchain technology partner for VCT and LoL Esports.
The first fruits of this new partnership will come to fruition on June 7, with the start of the Valorant Champions Tour Masters Toronto, which begins June 7.
Riot said in its rather brief announcement that Coinbase will work with the company to deliver a number of “fan-facing enhancements” to League of Legends and Valorant esports fans during events, including custom segments, event activations, hospitality promotions, and giveaways—to be integrated in the future.
Riot Games joins a list of top-shelf brands and companies partnered with Coinbase including Team Liquid, OpTic Gaming, NBA, WNBA, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Aston Martin Aramco (Formula One team).
While the duration of this new partnership was not disclosed, Riot said in its announcement: “We look forward to collaborating together to create deeper fan experiences across LoL and Valorant Esports for years to come.”
Riot’s last crypto partnership was with FTX, which inevitably collapsed and filed for bankruptcy, leaving users, investors, and partners losing millions of dollars.
