North American esports organization Cloud9 announced a partnership this week with Theta Network to deploy Nimbus, a Cloud9-branded conversational AI chatbot built on top of the Theta Edge Network.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The new Nimbus offering will interact with and inform Cloud fans, and is part of the organization’s continued push to find new ways to engage new and returning fans, and enhance its fan loyalty program, Club9.
Using Nimbus, Cloud9 fans will get real time updates, personalized insights, and access to team stats across its various teams, among other things. This new technology will be integrated into Club9, the organization’s Discord server, and on the Cloud9 website, according to the announcement.
Theta Labs has deals in place with several esports organizations, including FlyQuest, NRG, and Evil Geniuses; content creators such as YoBoyRoy; NHL teams such as the Las Vegas Knights and New Jersey Devils; and four of the top universities in South Korea. The company is backed by Samsung, Sony, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, and Creative Artists Agency, among others.
Announcing its most recent partnership with YoBoyRoy, Theta Labs CEO and Co-Founder Mitch Liu explained what the company’s Theta Edge Network technology does in layman’s terms:
“In the past, all the computing power needed for apps and websites had to be concentrated in a few big data centers. Now, with smartphones, laptops, and PCs being so powerful, they can work together over the internet to handle those tasks via Theta EdgeCloud – almost like a huge, shared computer made up of everyday devices.”
