North American esports organization NRG announced Thursday that it is using Theta Labs’ decentralized GPU infrastructure to create a fan engagement platform called Volt.
Financial terms of this new partnership were not disclosed.
The app, which officially launched on Thursday to the public, is described as an “AI-powered chatbot built on Theta EdgeCloud’s distributed GPU infrastructure powered by a native L1 blockchain.”
Volt integrates NRG official game data to provide fans with real-time statistics, match data, and player insights for NRG’s various professional rosters for Valorant, Rocket League, Counter-Strike 2, and Apex Legend.
In addition, Volt will provide users with player performance tracking, team schedules, standings, and circuit point updates across all competitions, giveaways, community events, merchandise promotions, and integration with Discord. Volt also features “extensive knowledge” of NRG’s competitive history in esports, and will be capable of quizzing fans on their knowledge. Additional features are in the works for Volt and will be announced at a later time.
“NRG is committed to innovative fan experiences, and Volt powered by Theta EdgeCloud represents the next evolution in how we engage with our community,” said Hauk Nelson, director of business development at NRG. “Thanks to Theta, we can provide our fans with instant access to stats, merchandise, and team updates across all of our competitive titles, including Valorant, Rocket League, Apex Legends, and CS2.”
Fans interested in interacting with Volt can do so at nrg.gg or on its Discord server at discord.com/nrg.
This deal with NRG comes on the heels of Theta’s recent partnership with FlyQuest for League of Legends. In addition to FlyQuest and NRG, Theta Labs’ EdgeCloud has partnerships in place with Evil Geniuses, NHL teams the Las Vegas Knights and New Jersey Devils, and four of the top universities in Korea, among others. The company is backed by Samsung, Sony, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, and Creative Artists Agency.
