Global Gaming League (GGL) announced Tuesday that it has raised $10 million USD for its Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) round led by Solyco Capital.
The Global Gaming League describes itself as a multi-title gaming league with celebrity-owned teams made up of four players each (who are also “star players” in some regards) who compete in live events across various genres. League matches will take place at GGL’s campus in Las Vegas (The Campus powered by Vū). The GGL is quick to say in its media that it is “not an esports league,” but rather a “gaming entertainment league that brings together every style of play and every kind of player.”
GGL will spend this money to launch its franchised league in tandem with its GGL Academy, an educational initiative focused on “empowering advancement through gaming education, career pathways, and scholarship opportunities.” GGL Academy has already partnered with several universities, including New York University (NYU), University of Las Vegas (UNLV), and Syracuse University. The inaugural season launches in May.
As for the league itself, team owners, as of this writing, include T-Pain, TikTok content creator Bryce Hall, legendary professional wrestler Ric Flair, and hip-hop legend Flavor Flav. More celebrity team owners will be announced in the coming weeks, the company said in a release.
Headquartered in Detroit, Solyco Capital invests heavily in real estate, but also operates a strategic investment portfolio that includes a range of companies including Savvy Sliders, SOS Hydration, Titan HST, Stratom, Toralgen, Skymirr, Prostacare, Medwatch Technologies, Newracom, Palltronics, Kimo Sabe Mezcal, FluidLogic, Genoptic, Freepower, EVmode, ai.io, Alternative Ballistics, bluon, OSDB, B File, algas organics, and many more. GGL was founded by music producer and entrepreneur (and former XSET Co-Owner) Clinton Sparks, in partnership with music artist T-Pain and tech executive Jeff Hoffman (Priceline, UBid, Booking.com).
