Canadian esports and gaming company OverActive Media (TSXV: OAM, OTC: OAMCF), announced Thursday that it has expanded into Latin America with Movistar KOI’s official entry into the Free Fire League. The new entry into Free Fire esports will be supported in part by its partnership with telecom company Telefónica Mexico and through its Movistar brand.
“This is a significant moment for OverActive Media as we expand into Mexico and deepen our partnership with Telefónica,” said Adam Adamou, CEO of OverActive Media. “Free Fire is a cornerstone of mobile esports in Latin America, and entering the Free Fire League allows us to connect with millions of dedicated fans in one of the world’s most passionate gaming markets. With Telefónica’s support, we’re well-positioned to engage new audiences and build a lasting presence in the region.”
Free Fire League (FFL) is the official competitive circuit for Free Fire in Latin America, operated by game maker Garena. Given that Free Fire is also an official title of the Esports World Cup that takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this summer (from July to August) OverActive Media adds another roster that supports a title that is part of the club competition.
Supported by partner Telefónica, OverActive will also work closely with Movistar Mexico to “drive fan engagement, support competitive development, and create new commercial opportunities through its expanding presence in the region,” the company said in a release.
Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, OverActive Media has esports operations in Madrid, Spain, and Berlin, Germany. The company currently fields rosters in Call of Duty League (Toronto Ultra), the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC – under Movistar KOI), and the Valorant Champions League EMEA (VCT EMEA – also under Movistar KOI).
