European esports organization OG Esports announced on Saturday that it had established its first mobile esports division in Honor of Kings, and will represent the Western Europe region as a partner team for 2025. OG Esports Co-Founder Johan “Notail” Sundstein announced the news via OG Esports’ official X account. Sundstein is a former OG Dota 2 player and won Dota 2’s The International 2018 and 2019. He is also the highest prize money-earning player in esports history with $7.1M USD in total earnings, according to Esports Earnings.
“We are very happy to be entering the competitive scene of one of the biggest games in the world! Like always, we share the struggles and advantages of people working in a group. It’s my dream to share our experiences and wisdom in the hope that we can realize our abilities and competence,” Sundstein exclusively told The Esports Advocate.
Developed by China’s largest game publisher, Tencent, Honor of Kings is the biggest mobile MOBA esports title in China. In January, OG appointed Daniel Sanders as its new CEO. Sanders mentioned that China is one of the key objectives OG is looking forward to expanding. In addition, Sanders has previously held leadership positions at Red Bull (head of esports and gaming marketing, UK) and Tencent Games (senior global marketing lead).
“We are so excited to finally be able to enter Honor of Kings, aligning perfectly with our strategic plan to focus on growth in both emerging titles and China. It positions OG as leaders of growth of the game in the West, and furthers our relationship alongside Tencent,” Sanders noted in the press release.
Honor of Kings is also one of the featured esports titles in Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup (EWC) this year. The EWC 2024 Honor of Kings competition featured $3M total prize money.
