WillPower Digital Sports and HealthyGaming announced a partnership this week that will see the companies collaborate on a number of initiatives, educational endeavors, and even a series of competitive tournaments in North America.
Financial terms and duration of this deal were not disclosed.
In its announcement the organizations said that they will work together starting in 2025 on projects that educate schools, colleges, universities, and grassroots organizations in North America interested in competitive gaming, on the dangers of bad gaming-related behavior, methods for fostering healthy gaming environments, the dangers of gaming addiction, and more.
More specifically, WillPower will work closely with HealthyGaming to empower and enable colleges, universities, and grassroots programs by providing “new avenues to generate sustainable income and strengthen their role in the gaming ecosystem.” One of those avenues will be the launch of the WillPower Collegiate Open Invitational, an initiative designed to “drive institutional growth and engagement.” The company also plans to expand its influence into traditional sports, which aligns with “HealthyGaming’s objectives in public health and increasing the physical activity among gamers,” according to the announcement.
HealthyGaming will focus on bringing its efforts that began in Asia to the United states including prevention strategies and interventions that “address and resolve problematic gaming habits,” using the research and methodologies it has already created.
With WillPower, it hopes to further develop and deploy its “evidence-based solutions with a socially responsible approach which incorporates healthier gaming habits and addresses related global health challenges.” Beginning in 2025, HealthyGaming will lead initiatives using evidence-based research, advanced technology, and “its expertise across healthcare, education, and gaming,” focusing on addressing critical health challenges in gaming and online environments.
The end goal, they say, is to “provide prevention and intervention support to children, young adults, families, schools, and higher educational institutions across the United States.”
Finally, the organization also plans on scaling its “Research Aid” model—previously established in Asia with AcadArena Education—to the U.S., accelerating further research on multiple topics related to gaming, esports, and gaming-related behavior with end goal of creating new opportunities for people and organizations in the U.S. to get involved with gaming and esports.
