Publicly traded esports and gaming company OverActive Media announced several company milestones related to its European esports brand Movistar KOI brand that were revealed at the recent Movistar KOICON 2024 event at the Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid, Spain. The event, which the company claims attracted more than 1M live stream viewers and over 3,000 in-person fans, was hosted by OverActive Media shareholder and popular internet personality Ibai Llanos and Team Ambassadors in Europe.
During the event, several of Movistar KOI’s achievements and milestones were shared with fans, and some announcements were made about the future of the organization.
The most important announcement coming out of Movistar KOICON 2024 was a naming rights partnership with Telefónica for the 2025 League of Legends (LEC) season, the financial terms of which were not disclosed at press time.
It was revealed that MAD Lions will transition to Movistar KOI for the 2025 season, becoming the first LEC team with a naming partner. This collaboration with Telefónica will not only cover the LEC, but also Valorant Champions Tour EMEA (VCT EMEA), and Superliga, according to the announcement. In line with this news, Movistar KOI also revealed an updated logo that will “feature prominently on team jerseys” and anchor a new streetwear collection launching in 2025.
OverActive Media also announced during the event that the inaugural Call of Duty Major in Madrid hosted by Toronto Ultra, will take place from Jan. 30 – Feb 2, 2025, at the Caja Mágica.
Movistar KOICON also revealed plans to launch a Fortnite squad, alongside a custom-branded team map.
Finally, the event hinted at plans for Movistar KOI to expand into Mexico, though specific details on those plans were not revealed.
OverActive Media also revealed separately this week that it would exit Overwatch 2 esports activities and discontinue its Toronto Defiant team and related brand.
