China-based electronics manufacturing company Huawei announced this week that its official app distribution platform Huawei AppGallery has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Arab Emirates (UAE) government-backed esports federation, the Emirates Esports Federation (EESF).

Financial terms of this new agreement were not disclosed.

Under the terms of the proposed deal, the parties will work together to “drive innovation and growth in the esports and mobile gaming ecosystem across the region.”

The MoU was signed by President of EESF His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Sultan Bin Shakhboot Al Nahyan and Managing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group for Middle East and Africa Eco Development and Operation William Hu.

The federation says that this proposed deal will leverage Huawei’s technological expertise and global reach as a consumer electronics company and be paired with EESF’s “leadership in esports governance and advocacy.” The focus will be on growing and supporting local talent and creating new opportunities for gamers and developers.

In case you are not familiar with the EESF, it serves as the officially recognized body in charge of competitive gaming in the UAE, sanctioned by the government.  The UAE Esports Federation is the official body responsible for developing and regulating the esports sector in the United Arab Emirates.

Shenzhen, Guangdong-based Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. is a multi-billion-dollar Chinese conglomerate that develops and sells electronics to the world including telecommunications equipment, solar technology, consumer electronics such as smart phones and laptops, computer and smart device operating systems, electric vehicle operating systems, and more.

In FY 2023, the company generated revenue of approximately 704.2B yuan ($97.4B USD), and a net profit of 87B yuan ($12B).
