Streaming analytics firm Stream Hatchet released key details from its latest report, Live-Streaming Trends Report for Q3 2024. General and broad key takeaways from the report, based on the data collected across multiple commercial, global streaming platforms include the following:

Overall live-streaming during the quarter (tracked across 19 platforms) saw consolidated viewership of 8.5B hours watched—912M, or 12% more than Q3 2023. Much of this growth came from platforms such as Kick, which saw its viewership double compared to the same period a year ago.

Viewership for esports saw its highest peak viewership during the quarter thanks to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Cup, with 2.3M concurrent viewers. The Esports World Cup—which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, over eight weeks during the summer—had a positive showing, with 103M hours watched and peak viewership of 2.8M across 22 different tournaments.

The top five platforms were Twitch, YouTube Gaming, Kick, Afreeca TV (now called SOOP Korea), and CHZZK:

  • Twitch: 5.1B hours watched and a market share of 61% – down from the 71% market share it held a year ago.
  • YouTube Gaming: 1.9B hours watched, or 22% of the market share.
  • Kick: 534M hours watched, or 6.3% of the market share.
  • SOOP Korea: 296M hours watched, or 3.5% market share.
  • CHZZK: 164M hours watched, or 1.9% of the market share.
  • Others: A collective of all the remaining platforms, which together saw 408M hours watched, and held 4.8% of the global market share.

Facebook Gaming the biggest loser for the quarter, dropping from 3.1% of the market share in Q3 2023 to just 0.8% in Q3 2024. Kick saw marked improvement, climbing to a personal best of 45.5M hours watched in the final week of the quarter.

Top games during the quarter across all platforms were League of Legends (461M hours watched), Grand Theft Auto V (438M), Valorant (303M), Counter-Strike 2 (214M), Minecraft (199M), Dota 2 (185M), Fortnite (167M), Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (156M), World of Warcraft (120M), and Free Fire (110M). Overall, the top genre across platforms was non-gaming at 1.38B, followed by first-person shooters at 1.14B, and action-adventure at 1.09B.
