Following the conclusion of the International Esports Federation’s annual competition—World Esports Championship (WEC24)—in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the organization held its ordinary general meeting and announced the appointment of several new board members and committee members. The IESF held its 16th Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) on Nov. 18, hosting over 150 delegates from member federations around the world.
At the meeting the IESF membership elected Samart Benjamin Assarasakorn as a board member; Daniel Wen Jun Loy as treasurer; Soufiane El Filali and Jaroslav Melishek as membership committee members; Tomas Gabris as chair of the Audit, Risk, and Governance Committee and Jacopo Ierussi and Stevan Nenad Rosic as members; and Ido Orel Brosh as the regulatory committee chair.
The IESF also voted to add federations from Canada, Germany, Latvia, and Malta.
The meeting followed the conclusion of the WEC24, which saw Turkey, Ukraine, and Brazil lead in PUBG Mobile; Poland, France, and Portugal take top spots in Women’s Counter-Strike 2; Romania, Portugal, and Serbia lead in Counter-Strike 2; Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang; Indonesia, Cambodia, and Egypt triumph in the MLBB Women’s category; and Greece, Sweden, and Turkey win big in Dota 2. Indonesia was named the overall champion for its standings across all event disciplines.Â
This year’s OGM and WEC24 were hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation, which is run by IESF President HRH PRince Faisal, who has ties to the Saudi Arabian government, the Esports World Cup, and the Olympics. The Esports Advocate reported in October that there was a vote to cancel this event in Riyadh at an impromptu board meeting, but members rejected the proposal put forward by Prince Faisal, according to sources.
