UK-based esports organization Quadrant Esports announced on social media Tuesday that it would step away from Halo Championship Series and competitive esports in general to focus on creating content for fans, apparel, and general motorsport culture. The announcement was made by Quadrant CEO Jamie MacLaurin, and followed a seventh-place showing at the Halo World Championship 2024 earlier this month in Arlington, Texas (Spacestation Gaming beat out OpTic Gaming to be crowned the 2024 World Champions):
“As of today, Quadrant announces that we are departing the Halo Championship Series and wider direct involvement in esports to continue with full focus on our exciting mission of being a brand rooted at the intersection of motorsport culture, fashion, and creative content,” MacLaurin wrote in a post on Twitter/X.
“We are deeply proud of what we have achieved during our time in esports and would like to share a special thank you to our HCS players, 343 Industries (now Halo Studios), and Microsoft for their devotion and commitment to the game we love – we wish you the best moving forward.
“To our fans, we thank you for your incredible and unwavering support. You have been a constant and passionate reminder of why we entered into this space in the first place, and we hope we have given you as many memories as you have provided us.”
Founded by British Formula 1 driver Lando Norris in 2020, Quadrant Esports Limited mostly focused on content creation as well as competing in competitive Fortnite and Halo, and has had partnerships in the past with SCUF Gaming, Streamlabs, and JBL Quantum, among others. In early 2024, Quadrant announced a “seven-figure” investment through a funding round with unnamed investors and named content creator William Jonathan Lenney (WillNE ) as a co-owner. At the time, the company said it would spend some of that funding to expand its business and create and deploy a subscription-based platform. It is unclear what the current state of that subscription platform is, as of this writing.
In a public filing dated Jan. 24, Quadrant listed Celero Promotions Limited as its largest shareholder with 561,00 ordinary shares (previously known as Lando Norris Promotions Limited, a company owned by his father and entrepreneur Adam Norris and controlled by Lando). Other shareholders of note include Veloce Esports Limited (271,000 ordinary shares), Motorsports Limited (101,000 ordinary shares), and United Autosports Limited with 71,000 ordinary shares (a UK-based sports car racing team founded by businessman Zak Brown—who also serves as CEO of McLaren Racing, Lando Norris’ current employer—and former driver Richard Dean)
According to public filings with UK’s Companies House, Quadrant Esports Limited reported a £598K GPB ($777K USD) loss for 2023.
